SHARON MCBRAYER Staff Writer It's something that's been talked about for more than 20 years, and while it appears more likely to happen now, a passenger train line connecting Asheville to Salisbury and points in between is still years off. Carolina Association for Passenger Trains, which says it is an independent organization of citizens dedicated to the improvement and expansion of passenger rail service within the Carolinas, says a western line connecting the two cities is about seven to 10 years away.
